The Fellowship of the Ring PDF is an epic high fantasy novel written by English author J. R. R. Tolkien, and first published in three volumes in 1954–1955 by Allen & Unwin. The novel tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who travels from his home in the Shire to Rivendell with the wizard Gandalf and thirteen dwarves on a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the dragon Smaug.

Bilbo’s journey takes him from light-hearted, rural surroundings into the more sinister territory. The novel has been seen as a successor to The Hobbit, largely due to its increased seriousness and maturity.

It was voted the “Book of the Century” in a poll of Amazon customers in 1999, and later named Britain’s best-loved novel of all time in the BBC’s Big Read poll in 2003. It has inspired numerous films, television series, video games, and other derivative works.

The Fellowship of the Ring Summary

The Fellowship of the Ring pdf is the first volume of The Lord of the Rings, a trilogy that Tolkien conceived as one novel but which was originally published in three volumes due to post-World War II paper shortages in England.

The title refers to the Nine Companions who set out from Rivendell on December 25, 3018 of the Third Age, led by the Wizard Gandalf and including Bilbo Baggins, Frodo Baggins’ uncle, and heir.

The novel covers their journey through Moria, Lothlórien, and Fangorn Forest to Rohan and then into Gondor, where they hope to destroy the One Ring in Mount Doom. Along the way, they are joined by Aragorn, son of Arathorn; Legolas Greenleaf, an elf; Gimli the dwarf; and Boromir of Gondor.

The book begins on September 22, 3018 with Bilbo Baggins’ 111th birthday in the Shire, where he lives. He decides to give his magic ring, which he found on his adventures detailed in The Hobbit, to his nephew and heir Frodo. Gandalf arrives and warns Bilbo and Frodo of the Ring’s power and the danger that it poses to all life if it falls into the hands of Sauron, the Dark Lord who created it. He urges them to take it out of the Shire.
