The Lightning Thief Summary

The book starts with Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old boy who is struggling with dyslexia and ADHD. He has been expelled from yet another school, but his mom refuses to tell him why. On the way home, they encounter strange creatures in the shadows and on the highway.

They narrowly escape with their lives. Soon after they arrive home, Percy discovers his father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas, and he is actually a demigod, part god and part human. Percy’s mom sends him to Camp Half-Blood where he learns about his powers and meets other demigods like himself.

He also discovers that Zeus’ master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the prime suspect. To restore the balance between gods, Percy must find and return the bolt in 10 days before a war breaks out among the immortals.
