About the Author
Lev Grossman is an American novelist and journalist. He is the author of the novels The Magicians, Codex, and Warp; the non-fiction book The Stuff of Thought; and a column on technology and culture for Time magazine.
Grossman was born in Lexington, Massachusetts, on June 26, 1969. His father is Jewish and his mother is Christian. He was raised in a secular household. He has one older sister, Ruth. Grossman attended Lexington High School, where he was editor of the school newspaper, The Minuteman. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1991 with a B.A. in English literature.
After college, Grossman moved to New York City, where he worked as a fact checker and book reviewer for Time magazine. He was promoted to senior writer in 2002.
Grossman’s first novel, The Magicians, was published in 2009. It tells the story of Quentin Coldwater, a young man who discovers that the world of magic is real and enrolls in a secret academy for magicians. The book was optioned for television by Fox in 2010, and a pilot was filmed in 2015.
