Jon Snow is elected the 998th Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Daenerys Targaryen crosses the Dothraki Sea in order to look for an army to help her conquer Westeros. Quentyn Martell travels to Meereen in an attempt to wed Daenerys and bring peace to Westeros.

At the Wall, Jon Snow struggles against the mutiny of his men. In Meereen, Daenerys tries to keep the peace between the slaves and the former slave-owners. Quentyn Martell meets with Daenerys but is killed before he can wed her.

A Storm of Swords is a novel of betrayal, love, and war. Jon Snow must fight against those who would betray the Night’s Watch. Daenerys Targaryen must deal with the complexities of ruling a city. Quentyn Martell’s journey shows the lengths that some will go to for love and peace.

About the Author

George R. R. Martin is an American novelist and short-story writer in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres, screenwriter, and television producer. He is best known for his A Song of Ice and Fire series of epic fantasy novels, which was adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011–2019).

A Storm of Swords

Martin began the first volume of the series, A Game of Thrones, in 1991, and it was published in 1996. Martin has written five out of a planned seven volumes. The fifth and most recent volume of the series, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011. He is currently writing the sixth novel, The Winds of Winter.

Martin was born September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey. He has been a professional writer since 1971. His first sale was “The Hero,” sold to Galaxy magazine and published in their February 1971 issue.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s Martin wrote science fiction stories and novels, including losing a Hugo Award to his story “Lost Places” in the Best Short Story category in 1978, and seeing his novelette “The Way of Cross and Dragon” nominated for a Hugo Award in 1984.
